Visual and narrative representation of self among aging women: an intersectional perspective
Our project aimed to gain an in-depth understanding of the experience of old persons who live in various forms of intersecting social marginality such as immigration, mental illness, poverty, lifelong disabilities, and more.
Our research on these women illuminated the idea that their experience cannot be fragmented
Illustrating such experiences by both oral and visual means (such as interview and photographs) may help to make them palpable. By so doing we hope to contribute to bringing the insider’s view of intersectionality to public and scholarly attention and empower women who dared to express themselves by oral and visual means.
