Yaacov Bachner
Prof. Bachner received his Ph.D. in sociology of health from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in 2005. His M.A. and B.A. degrees are in sociology and psychology from Bar-Ilan University. He completed a research internship in the Gerontology Research Center at Simon Fraser University Vancouver Canada and was a visiting scholar at Columbia University, Department of Socio-Medical studies, NY, USA. His area of primary research interests pertains to formal and informal caregiving of chronic and terminal illnesses among the elderly, from the perspective of the patients and the perspective of the primary caregivers. Additionally, Dr. Bachner studies doctor-patient relations, focusing on communication and medical education. Within these two main fields of expertise he incorporates quantitative methodological aspects. He is an active member of the steering committee of the Center for Multidisciplinary Research in Aging at Ben-Gurion University and served as member of the steering committee of the Israel Gerontological Society for many years. Dr. Bachner is an associate editor of the journals: BMC Psychiatry (social psychiatry section) and Gerontology & Geriatrics (Official Journal of the Israeli Gerontological Society) and has published more than 90 publications in peer reviewed journals. Currently he is the head of the M.A. program in gerontology in the Department of Public Health at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel.
